Blocks. The block area gives children the opportunity to develop their math skills. The blocks that are provided in this area come in proportional sizes and a variety of shapes. They learn about volume, measurement, comparing and geometric shapes. As they move the blocks throughout the area they learn about weight and size. During the year the teachers provide other types of blocks to encourage further learning experiences.
Math Manipulatives. This area of the classroom is where the children begin to learn about patterns, length, width, height, shapes and other math concepts as they manipulate the materials available. Through the use of rulers, counters, pattern blocks and other materials the children become ready to add, subtract and create patterns.
